I set up Docuflow in 2015 with the intention of providing the highest level of service to businesses and schools. After 20 years in this industry I had seen a decline in the level of attention being given to managed print service clients across the industry as automation took over some of the points of contact, such as clients calling up to order toner or the service department calling to get meter readings. There were fewer interactions between the supplier and the customer to the point where some office staff didn’t even know what the supplier was called.

The engineers were also being monitored and judged on efficiency and not the quality of their work. That was because those suppliers wanted to become more efficient and profitable by employing fewer customer facing staff and trying to make parts last longer than they should. This was a race to the bottom. Some clients who have moved to Docuflow said that they didn’t like calling up for service issues with their old supplier because they were treated rudely and made to try and fix the problem themselves before someone could come out!

I knew that the success I had enjoyed while working as a service engineer and then service manager and director in other prominent firms was largely due to the customer knowing that the guy who came in to repair your copier wasn’t just there to fulfil the requirements of the service contract but he or she really cared about keeping your office running smoothly. I have always encouraged service staff to take the time to chat to clients and ask if there was anything else we could help with. A good tech is more than a mechanic. They are a customer relationship manager (and sometimes an agony aunt) and they are the one who the client sees actually helping them and making their work life a little easier. It’s a crucial role.
